Congratulations, you have successfully made a new outfit for your Muppet Whatnot. What’s that? You want to embelish it but don’t know how? I’m glad you asked. This chapter will cover some of easy things you can do to make an outfit snazzy, as well as tips on accessorizing.

Embelishments
Buttons
So you like the idea of buttons? Always a popular choice, these are a fast way to make any outfit snazzy. However, it is my recommendation that instead of trying to create button holes, that you sew them in place, as decoration, as seen below.

Lace
Lace is another highly useful tool, it adds a nice decorative touch to any outfit. Simply sew it on where you want it. If you want it to go around the wrist or neck, you can alwasy gather the lace like you would regular material.

Rhinestones
Rhinestones are always a lovely addition to any outfit, Muppet or otherwise, and are easily applied to an outfit with a particular brand of glue called Jewel-It. Jewel-It will stick a rhinestone to almost any surface while leaving the surface flexible.

Accessories
Some items are just not easily made. This is through no fault of yours or mine, but comes from our limitations. We are people, not machines run by child slave labor in a foreign country. So, here are some tips on supplying things like hair accessories, jewelry and more:

Hair Accessories
If your Muppet is female or a drag queen, and a fashionista like our model Sally, she will probably want something for her hair. The hair on Muppets is very delicate, so if you buy clips designed for fine baby hair, you can easily slide one or eight into the hair, without causing any permanant damage.

If you are making the bows from scratch, you might try tying the bow around a piece of elastic. You can then attach some velcro to the tips of the elastic and secure it that way. (The image is from a Dorothy costume made by Rubie’s Costumes.)

Jewlery
Jewlery is almost as easy to accomplish as hair accessories. In most cases, necklaces designed for young girls or toddlers will fit them well. Watches and rings are a little trickier to come by, and for those you will most likely want your Muppet in the store with you.
